Thanks, I figured it might be content related. Or not setting forth his intended image or purpose.

Basically more mods, and the fact that activation is required to regester.

Something like that, at the end we put it back to auto and then spammers started to post.

the way we keep from too many spammers here is exactly what doug said. everyone has to be approved, and even then we keep a close eye on users to see who is posting, what they are posting, what their profile has in it, all that fun stuff, all to keep the site clean.

I guess when you are in the public eye, anything negative can be devastating. I know that there was a spam issue... I was banning/deleating quite a few everyday and most were promoting porn sites... not good when you are a family oriented site. Admin was looking into new forums software before Les shut it down. It would be a shame if we lost it for good.

Yes, its really sad people will advertise sex in a family forum. Thankfully we stopped getting spammers here, used to get quite a few a day, one day they just stopped Smile

Les is getting back around now from filming one of his episodes. He was having a problem with someone in particular I am pretty sure.
none of the posts or anything will be lost. he was just getting frustrated and wanted to shut it down untill he can handle it.
maybe they will set some new guidlines for mods, im not sure.

but it should be up soon.
keep your fingers crossed Smile

Likewise. This is a great forum. At the risk of repeating myself this is one of the best run forums on the net, it's absolutely chock-full of great survival/outdoors info and instruction, and our membership group is outstanding, the best I think.

It'd be nice if there was someway to convince Les to merge the two... or even better use this as his site's "official" forum. The moderation and administration here are top-notch and I'm sure whatever happened that caused Les to feel the need to take-down his "official" forum wouldn't happen here.

On the other hand, maybe it's nicer, more pleasant for all our members to camp here, somewhat out of the hub-bub and traffic of a commercialized site. Wink

Thanks for the great comments it means a lot Very Happy

Of course i'm keeping this place open, i'm always going to run this place because the Stroud forum always closes without warning; thus, causing people to get turned away.

my bet is that it will be up for 2 weeks. Their campfire will have 475 pages, and it will be shut down again.
