Yeah I know I'm weak. I couldn't decide if I liked the 1860 Model Army .44 or the 1851 Confederate Navy .44.... so I bought one of each.
1860 Model Army
1851 Confederate Navy
Now I just have to go make some smoke tomorrow.

Ah, you appear to be a historical reinactor also! Civil war or Fur trade??
Good to have you here Mario!

That is my Revolutionary War outfit. I am a commander for Brant's Volunteers (website in my sig line).
I also do F&I War as a French Marine.
That is a repro gun that I ordered partially done and did the finish work myself. It is my interpretation of a Trade Gun for the Mohawk Valley of NY in the 1770s. It's got a 46" barrel in 20 ga/ .62 caliber.
I do quite a bit of 18th century skills/fieldwork if anyone's interested.

I knew a police officer that loved collecting old guns. I held one of his guns with an octagonal barrel. It was really heavy but really steady and I liked it.

Great stuff Mario, how long have you been taking part in the Revolutionary & F&I War stuff.
Thats great you got to work on the rifle your self to finish it, looks good.

These are some pics of my last trip into the Adirondack mountains of NY.
4man (+1 tough woman) shelter, with a fireplace:
Me making supper (I'm the retired Chef, so I got volun-chosen for mess duty...)
If anyone is kinda local, I may be going out in the field for MLK weekend.

I know nothing of blackpowder/muzzle loaders, however I have a friend from ottawa who is a wealth of knowledge on them and is also a re-inactor (I will find out the details next time i talk to him to let you now if you are interested). I wish i knew more about the old guns...
Oh yeah! Welcome to the site too.

Sure. Being a Loyalist re-enactor, I work with folks out that way.

wow those are cool pictures. I watch shows mostly History channel about old guns, I don't have any guns, just starting to warm up toward them. but anyway it looks like allot of work, you get one shot then you have to load and stuff how long does that take anyway, I mean you can get shot before you have a chance to reload, so I am guessing you have to time it just right.

Using a paper cartridge (like the 18th century soldier did), I can fire 2-4 shots a minute depending on how up on practice I am. 2-3/Minute using a powderhorn and measure.

That's what bayonets, swords and tomahawks are for...
Much fun...

Got that right.
It's great to have new people like you. We're a pretty diverse bunch, but we all have common ground. Being outdoors. It's nice to have new members and get another shake on things. Learn new stuff, meet new people.
You found the right place. Once again, welcome.
