DD,
How does the gel hold up in really cold weather? Does it thicken further?
Just wondering it's temperature limitations.

Not sure on that one Dorby, i have the small pack size one in my car. And it was about 0 degress last year & it lite the same & burned the same. Not sure what it would be like at say, -5 or -10 ?. You got my thinking now, im going to stick it in the freezer for 20, then 40 minutes & then an hour & i'll check on the lighting of it & burning.

once lit i doubt it would be effected by the cold for long. The heat from it burning would keep it warm enough i think.... Totally just my opinion based on nothing tho.

Thanks, DD!
I had just wondered about temperature, because I seemed to remember some kind of cold limitation for gel to get it started with a flame.
Good to know your results!

Huh...cold weather doesn't affect it. That's interesting.
Too bad I'll never get my hands on any.

does the bottle say anythign about what the burning properties of the product are? That could help in trying to find out how cold it would have to be to stop lighting.

I haven't checked the specs on Ecoflame... but I know that hand sanitizing gel goes up pretty good, too. My bro-in-law is a paramedic and gets the stuff by the gallon really cheap... uses it to start campfires all the time.
DDave...
If you let the hand sanitizer sit in open air for any length of time, the alcohol evaporates out and it's less effective. Perfect for that non-residue feel on your hands, but bad if your trying to start a fire. What are the active ingredients in the Ecoflame? is it alcohol or some kind of kerosene? Hand sanitizer would be good in a PSK because it can be used for its original purpose too.... I wonder if that stuff could be a sanitizing agent as well.... it says non-toxic?

No Daffy, there is nothing like that printed, just general caution stuff, if swallowed, etc.
But it is a Canadian product all the way. Made in Toronto

> The active ingredient is; Natural sugar cane alcohol.
This is what is written on the bottle. { Ecoflame is an Ethanol based fuel made from high quality sugar cane alcohol.
Ecoflame is non-toxic, non-explosive & odor free. It does not require treatment
as a toxic waste.
