yep, I'll second and third on the salamander lures for bass. Good bass lure at times... I wouldn't use them for panfish though.
For panfish I'd concentrate on trying spinners, jigs, minnows, live bait, first... see what they're nibbling on.

my favorite rig when using minnows is a very small treble hook (size 16) and put it in the mouth of the minnow so that it comes out hook'd in the "lips" of the minnow. Then atttach it to a bobber and add weight as needed to keep your bobber at the right height. The minno is not bleeding and wont die. So it just swims around as far as it can (usually the lenght of line between it and the weight you put below the bobber) and keep it luring fish and stay alive till you catch somethign or leave for the day.

^ sounds like a good idea, I'll have to try it. First I'll have to catch some minnows. Last time there were tons of minnows but no net. I've seen those treble hooks too, the newer ones have one hook that's longer than the others.

Yeah I was using worms I found under birch logs last time. Then I got to the boat landing and found a nightcrawler somebody dropped. It was like 50 times bigger than my worms.

I was watching Alaska Experiment, and I saw one of the ladies fishing, I think the adventure racer, and I thought how proud she must be catching fish then eating what she caught. I want to do that soooo bad.

^Yeah, hearing the fish frying in the pan after a hard day of fishing is always a good feeling.
Go get a license and a rod & reel!

hey turd northern or southern sask?if you dont mind answering, also in regards to the minnow discussion before using live minnows to fish better check your local guidelines, someplaces it is illegal to use live bait fish. in sask. it is a healthy fine they can confiscate your rods tackle and sometimes your boat and you can be banned from fishing for a period of years!!!!!

I have no clue about you Northerners and bait fish ... but I'd be really surprised if minnows were as a general rule outlawed.
But you're absolutely right about checking the local guidelines. I know we've got regions and water bodies here that regulate the type of live bait, usually for ecological or fish hatchery reasons.

You should get a fishing regulations book with your fishing license, and if you didn't they should have the book for free anywhere you can buy a license. Always be sure to read the whole thing before you go fishing. You don't want to mess with the DNR. I don't know if anyone said this but they can take your pole, tackle, and even your boat. And they can restrict you from fishing for a while.

Just like MS said, check your local regulations. But yes, worms are live bait.
Go find out what's legal, then get out there and do it!
