With the weather warming up and the snow melting we are approaching "shelter season". I say we have a friendly compeition. We will set a date (some time in the middle of april or later i'd hope) and give a time limit (hours or days) to build a shelter. Pictures and details will be necessary. Members will pick their favorite shelter and have to vote (on a poll) which they like best. Members will be expected to not vote for themselves. The winner gets bragging rights, but everyone gets a little more experience with building shelters. IF you feel that this would be a good or bad idea post in this topic. IF enough of the regulars want to I think it could be a good little competition. So vote and post what you think!

i'd probably want to set it to a 2 week period and just limit people to like, 1 day.. just to factor in weather conditions.

I agree with te 2 week suggestion. I live in a townhouse and share my backyard. I would have to plan a weekend out to build my shelter.

Whenever is good, i'm in.

I think this wouild be a great idea to test your skills and have the other members help you out.

I've made shelters before, but they are nothing amazing, and your help/suggestions would aid me and everyone greatly.

This is a really cool idee.

Now shall we set some limits/rules? IE, can only use 2 tools, certain type of shelter etc. Or we can make a scenario, even if it isnt the same at the time. IE what would you would when its super hot outside and the sun is burning you up, you need shade.... etc.

I was thinking about that troop and figured that we could come up with something. Maby limit it to two tools that you carry when hiking, or we could just make a list of materials and say that people can chose 2. Either way, when you take pictures and write out the details people will know what you used to make it. Maby even have consideration given when judging based on the tools (or lack there of) used during construction? Im still wide open with ideas of how this should be done. I know for a fact it won't be untill after April 12th... (That is when I finish exams at CBU this term) Once again, it would be a 2 week period that people could build, but limits to one day construction. Progress pictures would be great too, b/c they would prove that you did it all in one day!!

I dont like the idea of certan types of shelters, i would if i had more area to build on, but ive got a tiny little forst without any pine so im pretty limited. unless i do it in larose forest(and while im there push over troopers while he is away Twisted Evil ) i wont have enough materials.

ok, sooooo do you mean that it should just be up to each user what kind they make? Should we limit tools? Or just make it all wide open? I think that you should be limited to what you actually carry on a normal basis in your hiking bag... i mean it is what you are going to be left with if you get lost.

So how does April 13th - April 28th sound? Tools that you are alowed to use are the ones that you normally carry in your hiking pack. Limit to One day start to finish (not 24 hours, one days worth of daylight). Lets say 8-12 hours from when you cut your first branch. Any objections/ changes you folks wanna see? If so post them before the Friday the 13th of April.

i suggested that period of time based on my exam schedule... i forgot that I end early this year. Nothing is set in stone yet, so if you have exams post the date they are finished.
