obsidian would be good. Gotta love natural glass that formed below the surface.

Arg! I've got my obsidian hand axe sitting right in front of me, but I can't find my usb camera cable. I'll post a pic when I am able.
Make sure you post the after pic DD, I'd be very interested to see how it turns out.

Well im getting into makeing my arrows. I have them cut to my draw, 29". The orange thing that looks like a pencil sharpener is called a tapering tool. Set 5 degress. It's a 2 in one taper, one for the field point end & the other for the nock.
I just got them sanded & sealed last night, & today i got the field points put on. I use 5 minutes apoxy, very strong stuff.

Drummer, Those look very impressive. Are you using standard dowels or something special? What will you use for the flights? Please post pics when finished.

lol, thanks guy's !
I am new to makeing arrows Troop. Im kind of a picky guy i guess, i like stuff to look right.
I still do finishing carpentry as a full time job, so, maybe that's were picky-ness comes into play.
And i really enjoy makeing these arrows, it's a blast.
{ Spot the camper } - yes these are standerd dowels, 5/16 from Home Depot.
I spend a bit of time sorting through these thing's. They must be uniform & no knot's.
The fletching i will use is real Turkey Feathers, i dont screw around there, nothing else will do.
I have done my home work on makeing arrow's. so, i hope my end result will be a true flight arrow.
Im hopeing to get a true 25 yard flight from these arrows. There are many factors to a good self made arrow, i just hope i got it right. I almost got all 12 arrows made, i will post a pick of them before i go out & shoot them.

Sorry if this sorta hijacks DD's topic, I figured its related enough that I probably shouldn't start a new topic.
I found my camera usb cable! Here are some pics of my obsidian hand axe and a couple arrowheads. The hand axe was made by an archeology professor in a lecture demonstration. Similar to tools found in Africa made by ancient man circa 10,000 BC. To be honest mine isn't REALLY the hand axe he made... he chipped off about 4 pieces that got progressively sharper until the last one was razor sharp. He gave the really sharp one (the actual hand axe) to my girlfriend cause it was really her class, I was just sitting there cause it was cool . I got the second to last piece, so its pretty sharp but I wouldn't want to skin an animal with it. Same shape and size as the actual one though. You could do surgery with the final axe (and some surgeons have actually used obsidian blades).
The arrowheads are not authentic. They are both replicas of ancient Mexican arrowheads. One is made of obsidian, the other of jasper.
All three:
All three again, different contrast:
