I split the bone with a rock and an old knife, the rest was done with file and sanding block, finishing touches with a diamond stone. Handle was just leather wrapped over pitch glue

just sanded the bone smooth came out better then I had anticipated. Worked the edge with a file, then a 3m sanding block, then a diamond hone

What kind of bone did you use? Isn't the middle of the bone all sponge like and not hard?

I buy bones @ Walmart for the dogs they are usually 6+inches long and 3-4 inches wide sometimes bigger sometimes smaller, and hollow. I usually stuff it with peanut butter (dogs love peanut butter) it will keep a dog busy for days trying to get to the peanut butter lol. The knife was made from one they couldnt get enough leverage on to split themselves which is usually the case then they chew it down to nothing. I just broke it down the midle and took the best piece and worked it .

Personally I would still take my crossman slingshot over a sling and shot anyday. It's compact, and I've had it for around 7 years and the elastic still hasn't broken on it. I'm a pretty good shot with it as well, no survival learning curve if I had to use a slingshot.

To be honest I'd also rather have my 870, my 22., or even my RWS , maybe my bow but I like to make things also and the old ways have a spell on me . I can easily get some game with my RWS its quite accurate and only makes a light pft when shot but is so much more satisfying to take a deer or something with something I've made with these two hands.

Well I ment if firearms weren't an option, otherwise the Remington 870 express is coming out!

In a survival situation I definately see your point, I too would prefer something I am acustomed to and profficient with. I've taken alot of game with a Wrist Rocket myself and is a great addition to a survival kit.
As far as the 870 , I purchased my 870 in 1983 used, it handles 2-3/4 - 3in magnum shells, has never jammed or misfired in all those years, has performed flawlessly, I just cannot bring myself to replace it though I love new things I just would not know what to do without old faithfull. Iam very old school if it's not broken I donot fix it, and I'am a firm believer in the k.i.s.s. method .
