Water purifier. They are expensive but will make it possible for you to have safe drinking water. If you canno afford this (me) just boil 15-20 mintes

first aid is very important, having a least a simple kit is a good idea, expecially when your using knives (EG. Les stabbing himself in Costa Rica)

Not a necessity but for the size and weight its good to take along experically for longer trips.

If you are in an area with no rocks (like me) this useful. Its also good if you got a pot or can with you. Stability is they key.

When in the bush you will use your knife a lot. Since a knife is your most useful tool it is important to keep it sharp at all time. It dosent matter what kinda of shapening stone you have, just take one along.

If is wet outside it is tough to start a fire. This tinder burns for quite a while and is great for transporting a flame. I cut them into quarters

This comes with a small flint match. Its very small and if you have cotton its easy to start a fire.

Sometimes having a small pocket saw can be useful. For its size having one in an emergency pack is a good idea.

IF youdont hve a tent then taking one of these is a good idea expeically in canada. Bugs have no remorse

Personaly hygine is always important, having soap just to keep yourself clean is a good idea. Biodegradable is the best type because it dosent harm the enviorment,

Bungee cords are good when settin gup tarp shelters. Or in extreme windy conditions

When out in a forest you will often ripp or tear something. Have a sewing kit is great for it
