 | | | | Just put a barrel under the downspout. |
If you're on the ground floor. |
You'd just have to haul it to the top floor.
Good exercise, if nothing else.

If you want to drink it you might want to buy a water filter, if it's not drinking water you could pour it through some screens.

Yea you may want to put a screen over the top to catch leaves and things falling in the water to keep it cleaner.

Yeah, otherwise you'll be drinking nastiness from off the roof!

I read that recently they discovered that rain water holds chemicals that we never dreamt were there until now. I guess it has lots of opportunity to pick up stuff in the atmosphere. You shouldn't drink rain water unless necessary.

Boiling will kill bacteria, but not chemicals. Some stuff can even travel with water when it's distilled, which used to be a sure fire way to purify water.
We live in dangerous times.

A water filter will take out chemicals. Sure there's dangerous things, but there always was, and always will be dangerous things. I'm sure you're ingested hundreds of different chemicals without knowing. As long as you stay in shape, and eat good foods you'll get old, but be able to move around fine.

Has anyone here actually considered going off the grid? Its a dream of mine, that when I get my own home I'll be off the grid.
