Mini Kit Challenge |
|
Okay ladies and gentlemen... as well as north american survival forum members... lol.. I stole the idea for this post from cliff's post in the "show your kit" thread.. thought it would be a great idea.
Rules!
Case - approximate size of a small camera case or another case approved in this thread
Contents outside of case - one item (knife, flashlight, etc) may be added to the outside of a closed case.
again, pictures of the kit open, closed, and exploded will be needed.
How does everyone feel about the updates?? another day and we will put a time limit on it!

I'd like to give this a shot.
Here's another option for size & type of kit:
Should be fun!

This size, or something similar, is the target! (thanks for the other pictures too, just trying to clean up this thread to make it more clear for people as to what we are aiming for)

I wish I had the time to work on something like this(it would be loads of fun!), but I really don't have the time.
That being said, here's my opinion about the size.
An Altoids tin would obviously be the most fair because they're all the same size. However, you can't fit much in one. Yeah, I know SK909 made an EDC PSK out of one, but, in my opinion, a kit this small does not have much use.
That's why I think the size limit should be a small camera case like Cliff's second pic(it's okay for a knife to be on the outside).
Or something like we've seen Fonly carry.

There's my 2 cents.

Camera case size & rules sound good to me.
Let's do it .
If nothing else,it will give some insight on how different the gear will be for different areas.

Here's what I've put together:
In no particular order...
AMK 2 person Heat Sheet
Mini Fox 40 whistle
Buck 55 folder
Mini firesteel
Fire straws
Tea candle
Mini pry bar
Misc. 1st aid supplies
Fenix mini light & spare battery
Orange duct tape
Orange trail tape
Compass
Signal mirror
There's about 8 feet of jute twine in the outer zippered compartment
No room for a water bottle or anything like that in this size kit
I could add some aluminum foil, but I've had mixed results when trying to use that after it's been folded & unfolded a couple of times.
Looking forward to everyone elses ideas

Very good.
I don't know if I will have time to work on a kit or not.
Could I have a couple weeks buffer to catch up on homework? Once I catch up on my Cal homework and write up these 2 lab reports that are due Tuesday, I might have some free time to work on a kit.

Although I hadn't thought of that myself, you do make a valid point.
Thanks. I have a ton of Cal homework that I'm going to try to knock a chunk out of this afternoon, then two lab reports to write before Tuesday.
Yeah, it's going to be a hectic weekend.
Every time I get caught up on the 20 things that are overdue, a thousand more pile on top. I haven't caught a break yet! Hopefully it will get easier!!
I'll try to find 10 minutes next week to throw together a kit. I need to get my new backpack first, though, and then a small camera bag to put all my stuff in.
We'll see how it comes out!

That might be borderline on the high side, but I think it would still be eligible.
Daffy and Cliff, what you guys think?

I duno, they are kinda big to think of mini... but if you don't have anything around the same size as most are using then it's cool... just a bit bigger .,.. maybe we should have a few challenges with making "the best" kits for a few sizes..

Yeah, we could have weight classes.
Cliff has a small one, Fonly has a medium range, and I could have the full backpack with way too much crap in it.
Sounds like a plan.
Time for a trip to Wal-Mart.
