Post Bush Buddy Survival Tool....what d'ya think ? Reply with quote
I have had an idea kicking around on and off for a while now and that is to have a tool made that would function as both a knife and a hatchet. I like to travel reasonably light and so don't wish to weighed down by carrying both a medium fixed blade and a hatchet /axe just incase I need them so this would be a compromise of sorts ! With a grip taken at the end it would chop comparable to a small hatchet or 7-8" fixed blade but could still be choked up and used as a knife !

I call it a Bush Buddy !

Actually, Rick had a similar idea to this a while back.

http://fourseasonssurv.s3.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?p=15215#15215

But it appears you have both taken different approaches to the same problem.

Yours is a small hatchet that can still be handled like a knife. Not necessarily a new idea(there are plenty of axes out out there small enough to utilize in this manner), but cool, nonetheless. Rick's is a hatchet that you can take the head off and manipulate it like a knife.

But he messed up the temper and cracked it throwing it at a tree. Laughing

Cool idea. Looking forward to seeing some prototypes. Cool

^Yeah, that was one of the ones that came to mind when I saw his drawing.

It's a nice design, for sure.

You can still make your own, even if it's already been done before(maybe not with the same idea in mind, but the same general design).

It's cool to make your own gear. Cool If you have access to a forge, I say go for it.

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Smile

Ahh...fiddling with the ergonomics, I see. Cool

Give Rick a holler as well and see what he thinks about it. He also might be interested in making one for you. Smile

crud, I did yes. My cheeky ol' father somehow ended up with it in his gardening equipment. Rolling Eyes Laughing

He had come over a few times this summer to get some tools, should have taken stock. Laughing
