Gloves |

personally I love wool gloves the best, but i cant seem to find a pair these days.
However these were only 2 bucks so i bought 3 pairs.
They are great, having 1 pair of those and one wool is great for the winter time.
When I use my camera, start fires etc, i use the fingerless gloves. Then i just pop the top on when it gets too cold.
I bought these. Havnt got to use them yet bu ti did tes them. They get pretty warm.

I have like 5 pairs. 2 wool, 2 thinsulate, 1 pair neoprene, great for when you have to work with cold wet stuff. Toasty warm they are.

I've found that the US Army has some nice, but cheap ($$$ wise) wool gloves. While doing a shoot with a local national guard unit they gave me two pair of them. They are really nice! The only bad thing is that they are one glove fits both hands type of gloves. So you get a strange feeling wearing them. During the summer I will wear a pair of the "mechanic" style gloves. I also keep a pair of them for searching people.

I've tried many types of casual gloves for hiking, skiing, general winter use... The best pair I have ever found so far is a pair of Windriver pure wool gloves with a fleece inside liner. My fingers haven't been cold for the last 3 winters thanks to those babies!

I have just some basic Thinsulate™ gloves.
Pretty warm, but not waterproof.
I am going to upgrade soon to some better ones.

I always have a pair of thin deerskin gloves in my kit. Leather is pretty spark resistant. In the winter I carry a pair of insulated pigskin workgloves or large Arctic style leather mitts on a lanyard.

Rick | Why do they need to be spark resistant?

Well Im not sure what rick's answer is totally but for me I try to avoid gloves that arnt resistant. Being close to a fire can melt gloves and make big holes even with small sparks. Thats why when I am around fires I like to use Wool gloves.

That's it in a nutshell, Troop. With my pigskins, I can reach into a fire and pull a log out (Not that I do that) But they are great for removing hot pots and if you are wearing deerskin sparks from ferros and blowing tinder bundles won't get ya.... having a blister, even a small one will make for a rough time in a bad situation. I can also move around hot rocks for when I want too take the chill out of a cold shelter. I try to pick gear that'll handle a variety of situations. I have singed my deerskins a few times and left brandmarks in them... That could have been my skin. I would hate to have a coal or a spark melt a synthetic glove onto my hand.... I've seen it happen, twice!

Good points, I have been considering making myself a pair of gloves, but Moccasins first...well actually tanning the hides first, then moccasins. I should get myself a decent pair of leather ones for survival, and yes Troop I remember that, still one of my favorite episodes, and I am fan of wool over syn anyday
