Post Pesticide Law Passed Reply with quote
{ This is an email i got back from the David Suzuki Foundation, thought i would share Cool }

Dear Dave,

Congratulations! You were part of a major victory for human health and the environment.

This week, a ban on lawn and garden pesticides was finalized by the government of Ontario, making it illegal to use or sell hundreds of pesticides in Canada’s most populous province.

"Yes we can, eh?”

This would never have happened without thousands of others like you, who used the David Suzuki Foundation website to tell government officials the places we live, work and play should be free of needless chemical pesticides. The sheer volume of support was simply impossible to ignore.

You're part of a community that cares.

Your collective effort strengthened the ban, even while the chemical lobby threatened to weaken it.

The political process can often seem overwhelming at best-- futile at its worst. At least that's what the big lobbies want you to believe.

Thanks for proving them wrong…

Starting this spring, 295 pesticides will be banned in Ontario, benefiting both human health and the environment through reduced use and exposure. Find out more by checking out the government website, which has specific information for home owners, golf courses, municipalities, and others.

Your actions go beyond making Ontario the second province in Canada to ban lawn and garden pesticides. Now, people in other provinces can grab the momentum to ban pesticides where they live.

Once again: Thank you, and Congratulations.

I'm really happy for Ontario,

As for me, in KY, I think I still need the grub control for the yard and bug dope for the garden. Otherwise I have a mudhole full of moles for a yard and no veggies. The Ash Boers have killed half the hardwoods in Ohio and we have a ban on wood or lumber crossing the Ohio river right now. Bet those folk would give plenty for a spray that would save their forests. Same for the Southern Pine Beetle. There are tens of thousands of acres of bare ground all over the southern U.S. right now. I hiked for three days once and never saw a live pine tree. I have four 40' tall specimins dead in my yard right now. 25 years growth gone due to lack of a bug spray.

That's a real good story though. Everyone thought it was acid rain killing all the trees until after 15 years they realized it was just one species of tree that was dying. They had passed hundreds of lines of legislation, stiffled the power industry and changed over most of the steam plants to natural gas instead of coal, at huge expense to consumers, all in the effort to stop tha acid rain from killing the Great Smoky Mountains. All the time it was a bug!

We're happy for Ontario though, living pure and free of government intrusion into theyr back yards. Perhaps they should buy a pistol and shoot the moles. Oh that's right, I forgot, the government doesn't think they need pistols either. Now they are unprotected from either bad guys or bugs!

Ya its a good thing for sure Cool

The pine bettle did mega damage here as well, millions of acres.
though the lumber can still be used, its not a total waist, but what an ugly view in some areas Confused
