So I noticed this year that there was a significant increase in the cost of fishing materials. Fly tying materials, such as small spools of flat tincel (approx 15-20 feet and maybe 2mm wide) was selling last year for around 3.50 at specialty stores and stores like walmart alike... this year the cost ranges from 5-7 dollers per spool! My fathers friend ordered some fishing gear from lebarron's 2008 winter catalogue... normally there is only a few doller difference, if any, between 2008 winter and 2009 spring... In total his original order was for 800 dollers.. which included a new fly rod (eating up most of the 800) as well as some hooks and tying supplies... they rejected his order as the difference in cost was upwards of 75 dollers between catalogues... CRAZY!

I haven't looked into spoons/lures, line/leader, or spinning rods/reels, only the fly material. I have not looked into natural materials such as deer hair, bear hair, and feathers cause we get most of ours from game harvested here or from locals who happen to have phesants and other feathered birds used in fly tying so i do not know if they have increased either..

What I am noticing though is that hooks and manufacutred materials, as well as fly rods, are increasing in price more than the usual amounts. Anyone else noticing this? Could it be that hooks are becoming more expensive as the cost of raw metals increase?

This is due to the start of the recession / hyper inflation. In recent years the Fed's have about doubled the money supply and in the last 3 months they doubled it again with the bailout.

What this means is that the dollar's sitting in your pocket at worth less than they were a year ago because of this. The only reason some prices have went down (gas, housing) is because of people losing jobs and being more frugal and not going out to eat as much, traveling when they don't need to.

Well wierdly enough, fishing licenses here went down $ 1.00 & all the gear as well, lures / Flys / line, etc have gone up some.
Not enough to shy me away, lol, NO WAY. Once you have the gear, fishing to me is cheap for a days outting.
A little gas money to get where you want to fish, then its 5 to 7 hours of pure pleasure Very Happy

Its funny, I have to buy worms here. Back east I never did that obviously, but due the ground out here (full of clay) Its near impossible to come acrost any, actually you can't unless you have a worm farm.

If you didnt know Fonly: Again, Canadian tire sells Worm Farms. There only about $ 13.00 ?
And you just get half a dozen healthy worms & put oatmeal in this fibre stuff thats in the container & kep it damp.
And away they go. Ive never used one, but heard they do work pretty good.
I use fake baits & lures when i use my spin cast. Cool
