Ever try this for Tinder ? |
|
Ive found pine cones to be awesome fire starters.
You have to first make a nice tinder pile, get spark to it, get it going & then put 3 or 4 of these on & its a sure thing.
I once tryed just a big pile of Jute with 1 big pine cone on it, poof ! away it goes. Try it some time

Yea We use pine cones a lot down here. Course Florida has tons of pine trees.
They do make great fire starters and all. They also make cute little Christmas trees ...lol
If you smear them with peanut butter then roll them in bird seeds they make great bird feeders too..

^Yeah, I remember making bird feeders, too.
I read about using them as kindling in a fiction book several years ago, but I've never used it myself. I will have to try it sometime.

Cool thing about some Florida pine cones are they require fire to open and disperse their seeds.
Nothing like throwing a couple closed ones on the fire, watching them open and shoot out their seeds.
Not to mention the tangy flavor pine adds to those kabobs you've cook over that open fire. YUM!
I love the smell of a pine forest on any day
