Questions for Les Stroud "Survivorman" 12 |
|
Questions are sent time for another round!
Here you may ask Les "Survivorman" Stroud a question. Before you do so we have a few rules:
1) - Read the old questions so they don't repeat
2) - Make sure you read it over so it makes sense.
3) - TRY to have correct spelling/grammer
4) - Please ask in the Q: format (Put "Q:" before your question)
Example:
Q: Les, would you ever do a survivorman episode in Mongolia?

Q: Les I see now in Season 3 that you no longer wear MEC apparel or have MEC in the credits, it's Columbia Sports Wear.
Was this a personal choice ? Or a new contract ?

Q: Hey Les. I recently watched Snowshoes & Solitude, and am curious if you rented the land, had to notify the gov, or just picked a spot and set up your camp? Is your cabin still standing? Thanks.

Q: I was very shy when I met you in Seattle. Did you ever take a class for public speaking or did you never have a problem with it? Kim
Q: These wonderful people here helped me pick out a hatchet for me, but just out of curiosity, what kind of hatchet did you use in the Australian Outback? Kim

How does your family react when they watch footage of you doing "Survivorman"?

My Questions RE: Snowshoes and Solitude |
|
First I just wanted to thank you for your show and passing on some of your skills and knowledge to us viewers. You are responsible for me getting into bushcraft and survival training even though it was a dream of mine since I was a little kid, I never would have thought it was possible without watching you do what you have done.
Q: In Snowshoes and Solitude, you stated you didn't boil all of your water before drinking it, and it seems that's how you contacted Giardia. Was it a technology issue because of the clay pots/wood bowls that prevented you from boiling the water? If it was a technology issue, how would you fix the problem, if at all, while still using the same tools you had access to, now that you have more experience?
Q: In Snowshoes and Solitude, your friends left you some modern tools (Axe/Saw/Stove) and you used them to build your winter cabin and you finished it just in time for the snowfall it seemed. How bad do you think the situation would have been if you didn't have those tools? It seems like you might have been in serious danger since the snowfall was timed almost with you completing it with modern tools. Did you have any plans for if you didn't have the winter cabin built in time?
Thanks again for your wonderful show, work, and the help you give to charities. You are an inspiration!

Q: I've noticed that when you drink from a stream or lake, instead of scooping the water up in your hands, you drink directly from the stream, like an animal. Is there a reason for this? You, um, only drink like that out in the bush, right? lol

Q: Hi Les, I know that on a couple of occasions you've advocated a coffee can w/plastic lid as an ideal survival kit container, as it makes an expedient billy can. Since you did those shows there's been concerns about bisphenol A in the linings of food cans, which could be released by using the cans for boiling or cooking. Do you still like the coffee can as a boiling container? Any preferred alternatives?

Q - Twice in Survivorman season 3 you showed what it was like to be the subject of a search and rescue operation. Have you ever considered doing a show in which you join a search and rescue squad for a time to show what's involved in training and conducting searches?

Q: when do we find out who won the ultimate fan contest.

Q - During the taping of "Survive This" (currently about half way through it's Canadian broadcast), where were the teens parents? At their homes, or in a lodge or something nearby? Excellent, compelling show, by the way.

The knot you used to tie your knife to the walking stick in Africa,
What is it called?

Q - In "Survive This", were the challenges done on consecutive days, or was there a chance for the teens (and crew) to catch their breath and get a meal and a sleep in between?
