*** My new Fly Rod *** |
|
Well as some of you may know i like Fishing
There is a new Fly fishing store that just opened here in my town so i had to check it out
And ive been wanting to get a new Lighter fly rod for the trout & cutthroat & kokanee & dolly varden & ... Ok, i'll shut up.
So i picked up a very nice: JWoodbury Rod & matching reel.
Its a #4 weight rod 9' 4 piece, with a 3-4 weight reel, which is really smooth the reel is called " The Jack " model.
Im just dieing to get out and use it, but spring is a painful 71 days away

Ya, im liking it alot. Do you mean you have always wanted a Fly Rod or a Jwoodbury rod or reel ? lol
Fly fishing rocks, period ! LOL.
Well ive been looking for & at many rods in this weight class over the last year or so.
And im not a $rich$ guy, but do Ok. And ive been looking at SAGE rods & other well knowen names.
And just like any other BIG BRAND name company you do pay for the name some what.
So, im a shopper and want the best for my buck, & you learn that other companys produce the same quality at almost have the price.
So i spent almost 4 hours talking with Nathan the store owner about JWoodbury rods & reels.
You get alot of rod for a great price & the reels are like slik in operation.
JWoodbury has been around for a long time, i just never heard of them, there are hundreds of Rod makers
So.
I went for the rod, its backed with a life time replacement on any piece that breaks thats awesome.
The Rod came with a sock & case a nice touch, alot do not.
Then the reel, i wanted a good reel this time around, & this thing is sweet.
I will have this reel for many.many years.
Then theres float line, i wanted really good stuff this time, it makes a big differance in casting.
So, the Rod came to with tax= $ 125
The reel came to with tax= $ 172
The float line was witrh tax= $ 65
And the backing that goes on first before the float line was= $ 12.00
The whole works came to = $ 374.00
And thats a great deal for getting everything thats good quality
I showed 2 of my fly fishing buddys and the ywere SWEET ! and they were floored with the price for the rod.
And one of my buddys really liked the Reel alot, he is thinking of getting one himself this spring lol.
Great to hear that the BM 551 has cleaned some trout
That will be a great match to go with my new rod once again, a zillion thanks Fonly

Wow man you did get a good deal. There was a small store back east selling one of those for $400 dollars I think. It was a lot.
I have an old rod here somewhere that my grand father used as a kid, its 80 years old or more, a nice keep sake for sure.

Thats cool Fonly to have a keep sake like that. My fishing buddys Dad back east had a hand made cane fly rod that his uncle made in 1966, and my fishing buddy was back east visiting his Dad & he gave it to him. Its a 3 piece, its cool. He doesnt use it much as he doesnt want to Break it

Yeah, I know what you mean. Whenever I get a new piece of gear, I always want to go right out and test it.
I don't know that I'd have the patience to wait a month and a half.
Stay strong.

9'4" is a great length dave! Dad has a wide range of rods but his 9'4 has the most "miles" on it, so to speak. Best of luck fly fishing and make sure you put some good line on that puppy!
Kinda a random question.. but i do not do neerly as much fly fishing as i do with the spinning rod... but my dad almost strictly fly fishes.. anyway, after fishing salt water dad pulls every bit of line off his reel in the sink, takes apart the reel (in the sink) and then puts the line back on. Is this a normal practice or is he just obsessive over his gear?

I started out with the $ 25.00 stuff, then went to $ 40.00 and i noticed it in the cast.
Now im useing $ 65 to $ 75.00 stuff, sweet. You really notice it in casting, it's so smooth. And i as well was told to always after a days fishing is to pull all your float line & backing out & get clean water in a bucket, & clean it all. Theres alot of crap in the river you cant see that builds up on your line & makes casting less fun LOL, your Dad isnt obsessive, its good practice. It keeps everything running smooth. And if a person doesn't do it, them trys it once, there: WOW it cast's like new again, lol.
Im chomping at the bit to get out and use my new flyrod, March first i can get on the lakes anyways.
Then in May start on some area's of river

 | | that is so true. my sister said to just go by myself. she fishes too. but she lives to far away. | > Im not saying go way the heck out into the bush to a fishing hole, cause with that, one can get into a situation.
You have to be really carefull of what you do & how you do it. Take extra caution. Aways tell some one how long you will be gone & where you will be, if your walking or driving etc.
When i fishing on the Vedder River by myself, i take no chances with crossing something im not comfortable with.
1 slip on a rock, bash your head, your down in the river and carryed away hundreds of yards in minutes.
3 people died last year in the River, mostly teens on float tubs or crappy little blow up boats. And they have 0 knowledge of the River. One girl went down and got pined under a log & never came back up. Its sad, ive seen people on the other side of the river scared & some screaming to help. One time i had to point to them and tell them to go back up river on the bank, jump in swim towards me & i would pull them to shore. I had my waders on so i was able to get half way across.
So 1 at a time 3 girls jumped in swam hard across the river pulled them to me & i pulled them out.
And a guy as well, none of them were over 19 years old. One girl cryed and hugged me and said thanks.
I say they were lucky, they could just have been pulled under the log jam they were standing on and drowned.
A beautiful River with awesome wildlife, but deadly if you think your not in danger at any time.
Every minute your in it, your in danger.
So, LOL what im saying Kim is please dont go out by your self with out telling people where your going & how long you will be.
And NEVER ! take chances by yourself.
