Botany in a Day |
|
I'm starting to read Botany in a Day, by Thomas Elpel. It's set up really good, because it helps you identify plants by family and tells you the uses without going into specific species. It's great because it can be used almost everywhere in the US and most of Canada. It also teaches you the evolution of plants which is also really cool. I've learned a whole bunch already just from the history pages. Did you know blue-green algae is the oldest life on earth along with simple bacteria, and they're still around today. Also moss is really old too. It doesn't have a vestibular system to pump water, that's why it doesn't grow very big. It also said that the first forest were ferns and they grew hundreds of feet tall. It's definately a good reference book to have.
