Season 3 Episode 5 Australian Outback Talk *SPOILERS!* |
|
Well, I still love Survivorman and I'm sad that the series ends after next week, but this episode seemed a little routine. Too planned out, you know?
I don't know. What do you guys think?
Loved the wichety grubs and crawdads.

I thought it was a good episode. I really like the places where he gets a lot of sustenence. That's why I liked Cook Islands a lot too. Well I guess the saying, "the grass is always greener on the other side" is not true. Then the other famous line comes into play. "You don't know what you've got til it's gone." I thought the sheep was funny too. I don't think I would have tried to kill it either if I knew I was getting out of there in a few days.

Defonatly know what you are saying here.... everything seemed planned but it could just be that, for the most part, everything went smoothly... the area seemed to support survival, until the last move at least, very well...

Yeah. It was just a little stale and predictable. I'll watch it again to see if my opinion changes. Still love the show.
I have higher hopes for the last episode.
But it will be sad to see the series end.

It's sad that good tv often means harder times for les... like... had he stay'd at the place with the crayfish he woulda survived fine and it all woulda been boring and repetitive... but any one of us in that situation would have done just that. I mean if les had created a weapon that could have killed the sheep or had show'd another water gathering/shelter/fire starting method it woulda been good too, but i mean... in reality he would have done just what he did...
This all being said, I woulda liked to have seen a shelter or another fire starting method. (if he had ruined the matches when he split them and had to improvise... like in the kalahari in season 2 with the pop can)

I loved this episode. It was very good and I learned something new. It was a solid episode, good food, he made a Jeremiah Johnson Shelter and the Sheep at the end was hilarious.
VEry good episode.

even if it doesn't it will give you some peace of mind if you are superstitious!!
I was thinking about it and the only "reason" I could come up with ws that rope tends to have very small, and sharp, fragments (ever run a rope through your hands?) which could cause some discomfort for a snake... but, that's entirely my best guess...

That could be it...although, he had smooth nylon rope from what I saw. Heck, like you said, it's a little peace of mind. Anything helps when you're hungry and alone.

I think as the season goes on I see a correlation here with the routes he takes. It seems its much safer for him now, unlike in season 1 where he would just walk pretty much randomly. Well episode 1 season 1 was a perfect example,, there hasnt been an episode similar to that one. I guess they are trying to keep him safer now than before, but its nice we still learn stuff from the episodes. THere are quite a few new things shown so I always learn something. Still the thing I miss about the show is the "uncertanty" of his voyage. I remember in season 1 I was always thinking, "Jeez is he going to make it out?" and how? Now I just assume someone is waiting somewhere for him. Thats pretty much the only thing I dont like as much about the last 2 seasons. But the show is still fantastic.

I hear ya there Troop. I still think season 1 is the best and maybe thats why. It made you go wow, will he get out when he is supposed too ?.
Now its just when the hour is up you know he is going home

Anyone ever consider that he might of had a scare? Think about lost at sea... he had equipment to keep him in touch, he could see the boat, and it fail'd. Just cause "big brother is watching" doesn't mean that they would be able to find him... so maybe he took this into consideration when filiming the new seasons... also, it adds a more real approach when he uses Air/Sea/Rescue teams and shows their effictiveness. And it is different, season one got people like us, season two got those who wanted to see someone go to places of fairy and folk tales (africa/etc with crazy animals and the ruggad north), and season 3 gets your average joe who thinks that after 7 days people would be out looking for him. Regardless of the reasons, I'm just glad they are on "tv" (as I have downloaded them all so far this season) and I'm with troop and dave saying that season one was the best.. i mean it was the season that led, at least the three of us, to the ORIGINAL les stroud msg board that had 4 topics with only a few threads that were updated about once a month. Cheers guys, it's been a good run so far.

My thoughts too. Season 1 was amazing. I never get tired of watching Season 1 eps like I might the last two seasons.
He spewed a lot of good info in this ep and ate like a king. The scenery was stunning as well.

It's not any brand names I would know. He probably picked it up in Australia. Looked like a good one, though.
Kinda resembled Estwing's hatchets, but I haven't studied them closely.
They're great quality, too.
