I was sad too see he never caught a real meal the whole time he was in the Sierra Nevada. it shows you really cant survive there. also he had a tent, lol. so much for seing him build that special shelter. it sucks too since i use to live near that mountain range, and always wondered about surviving les style. I was disappointed.

I have to say out of the first two episodes I liked this one a lot better. Sure he took some "high-tech" gear with him, but I think that at this stage of the game, like troop said, the show is evolving. First season there was a lot of overlap (with similar shelters, very few tools) but it did introduce some basic tools to aid in situations (mag-stick in the arizona episode... i think it was arizona). Anyway, then he moved on to foreign places and more extreme conditions in season 2. The frost thaw in labridor and the large cats in a few different episodes as well as one of the hottest deserts in the world. Now season three seems to have started to go back to the "lost hiker" mentality of the first season with more gear (but still keeping it fairly minimal). Think about it... How many of us would take at least one fancy piece of equipment to take into the bush if we were going for a few days? I'd say pretty much all of us have at least one thing they want to try out. Based on this theory I welcome the 3rd seasons differences, so long as Les doesn't go overboard and use a prospectors tent lol!

Haha thats very true. It does apear he went back to the old scenario just better prepared. I still find he's got WAY more gear than previous episodes but I guess he has to cover everything. Still this episode was really good.

I saw parts of the new shows & I thought they were as interesting as some of the older ones.
It's certainly changing, but still a good show. More real than, well, you know
I'll still watch it if I know it's on.
I like seeing the more modern equipment being used in the new episodes because that's what we have available these days.
But I also enjoy watching him still making the old style traps & things because I also like fiddling around with those things. It's a good way to pass the time while you're out & it could even get you some food if you really need it.
He's using horses , getting outside assistance , using more gear , even gonna bring a buddy along with him.
Hey....something for everybody in these shows.
You gotta love it
Yeah...I like some of the new & I like some of the old.
I guess that makes me a SEMI-luddite
But you guys can just call me Lude

Yeah, I always like to see what knife he's carrying, too.
He's carried a different one in all three episodes, so far.
I kept forgetting to post, but Cliff remembered. He's surviving with a buddy in the next episode. I'm guessing it will be Northern Ontario because I doubt they'll be hunting in Madagascar or New Guinea(lost hunters is the theme for this one). It doesn't air until next Friday(Dec 5th). There is a Deadliest Catch marathon tomorrow, so that's why we have to wait two weeks for a new episode.
Can't wait though. Looks like a good one!

buck 119 is my personal fav (even tho i dont' own one yet.. use a buck 110 folder...)
my cousin uses one and when i took it to get it sharpened the knife sharpener commented on how it was "a good blade with good steel" so I was hooked.. gonna buy one when they money train starts flowin better.

No, I'm 100% positive it was not the Buck 119. He carried that in Season 2, but he has had different one's so far for Season 3. The 119 may have been in the Temagami Hunting episode, but I didn't get a good look.

I noticed that after he ditched his gear and started traveling, he spent the night in the open, next to a fire, with no shelter of any kind. This was despite the higher elevation. It looked like the fire was big enough to keep him warm, but since I can't recall him him doing this before, I would have liked to hear him talk about his reasons for not building even a basic shelter to keep off any possible rain.
Overall, I liked the episode, The search & rescue was a good example of adding another realistic element into the episode. Just like a real lost hiker, he knew S&R would be looking for him, but had no idea when and where they would find him. Staying put once the helicopter pilot located him was a good tip.
