Home made Packboard |
|
I was needing a pack board several times while i was out scouting for nice hard woods. And many times i have seen some and never been really able to pack it out. So i fixed that problem. I already had an old Backpack of my Dads & the pack part was easy to just take off without wrecking it. So all i had left was the frame. So got some plywood, measured it up got some tie hooks.
I secured the pack to the board with some 1/2" clamps. Done

Good job.
Would be good for packing out venison, too.

I have a suggestion. Why not drill some holes in it to lighten the pack up.

^Always thinking.
Yeah, it would shave a few ounces off, and give you more places to tie stuff.

Its totaly light as it is, but good idea if there was a weight issue. More holes just weaken the board, so when you go to tighten a load up you may start cracking it, or worse pulling it apart. This is just a temp thing, if it works and feels good on my back i will get a nice piece of 1/2 " or 5/8" board and fix it on the frame. As well im going to be putting on more tie down eyes. Going to do a test run with it tomorrow hopefully or Monday.

Testing's a good thing. I don't know about you, but with a backpack I need the weight to be high up or else it's hard to carry.

Oh ya, know all about how to pack a pack, lol. It becomes an art if your always carrying 80 to 100 lbs.
You find out really quik how to pack a load on your back, i never had anyone teach me this when i was 15 years old.
So i learned the hard way . Now its just second nature.
As far as the packboard goes, the way it sits on my back is already high, so what ever i strap to it will be middle/high.
Which i like personaly, everyone is a little differant.

Yeah when I went camping I had everything sort of low because I had too much stuff. It was really pulling me down, but on the way back I packed it high and it was much better. I heard that for women it's better low, and for men it's better to have the weight up high.

Nice job Dave,
You'll have to give it a good work out and see how it holds up.

You should hollow out a log by coal burning, and use the hide for a drum. If you didn't want to keep it you could make a couple hundred dollars.
