Black bear attacks are uncommon. But don't get complacent, even in what might seem to be an unlikely location:

Thats wild.....makes ya wonder why the bear went for the Man and not the fish. Shocked

well they said it was elderly and in poor health, so it may have gone for the larger meat source, because it was starving or something. He should recover, doesn't sound like the injuries were too severe if he is conscious now

The latest I have read says the guy is recovering, without giving details. Since he had been cleaning and carrying fish, he likely smelled like a fish to a nearsighted old bear. Apparently fishermen used to dump fish guts on the beach for the bears, but that practice was stopped a while back because, well, it attracted bears.

Yes i read in todays paper that he is doing well concidering.
And the boat dock in that area over the last 2 weeks or so has had some bears hanging about before this.
Why ? because " people " were leaving garbage on there boats.
