So I've been working on a hot air balloon. I've made my small scale which is a 16" template. But I've not had success. It was more of a practice anyways, because I wanted to practice fusing the plastic together. I think my next one will be 4' tall, and about 28" in diameter. I don't know what my heat source will be yet, but maybe I'll put a few alcohol candles under it. Here's a pic of my small scale balloon, and the template I used. You cut out 8 peices to make it.

I know that for testing, you can use a blowdryer, its just convenient way to get hot air fast.

yeah that's exactly what I did. When that didn't work I piped the hot air from a propane torch.

Well I've made a big decision and decided to bump it up to 5'4" instead of 4'. I'll be using an extra bag, but you only do this once right. So I'll try and get it right the first time. This definitely boosts my chances in terms of getting liftoff. Cool

Well it took me 3-4 hours to complete, and it turned out good. Only thing is the heavy duty bags weighed too much. Sad So no lift off, but look on the bright size. I have a 4' tall party balloon. Shocked Laughing If you toss it into the air it flys pretty high, so that's fun too. Beleive me I tried everything to get it to fly. Maybe I'll get back into rocketry instead. Laughing

This project gave me an idea. You could also make parachutes in the same fashion. Just don't include the bottom half. Cool

Heck, dude, just fill it with helium. Laughing

And if you paint it with bright colors, it could be a big party balloon. Surprised

Don't forget to make a parachute for the Bear Grylls action figure. See if you can make him land in a erupting volcanoe. Twisted Evil

Well if you get back into rocketry, still include the action figure, it will be his newest way of getting on site...

Yeah either that or deciding to spray the inside with ether and lighting it to make it fly. Wink

I would say really big boom, and you'd probably be blinded so you wouldn't see it anyway. Wink

I like the way you think, my friend. Twisted Evil

I have a better idea, Mystik. Put weird colored marshmellows in it. Shocked

I have some stale ones in the kitchen, as a matter of fact....

Oops.
