Nice day for a hike |
|
It might be hard to believe, but SW Ohio (Cincinnati area) is loaded with some really spacious wooded areas. It's not all city.
Went hiking this morning in an area that I'd never been in before & enjoyed it alot.
It's about 600 acres & located in Delhi Twp.
Took some pics too:
Near the trailhead;
Spooky looking burned out tree:
Some kind of fungis:
Spooky looking forest creature:
Spooky looking forest creatures gear:
Had a real nice hike & I'm planning to go back there soon.

No more blue shoes for me...I,m too old for that stuff now.
Walked up on some of these guys on the way out:
Can anyone ID this bark? I thought it looked like birch bark, but it
didn't burn like birch:
Found someones attempt at a shelter...looks like they gave up:

Cool bees.
About that bark....hmmm....it almost looks like bark from a sycamore tree(don't know if they grow in Ohio ). Then again, I've seen bark from a pine tree curl off in pieces similar to that, but much shorter. It gave me quite a puzzle the first time I saw it. But I would think pine bark would burn rather vigorously....much like birch....
I have not tried to burn sycamore bark myself, but it does scale off in pieces similar to what you have pictured here. In fact, I think I can see tiny pieces of that same bark on the ground below the piece you photographed. What trees were growing in the area?
We'll get to the bottom of this.
Darn you, Cliff....you've got me all worked up over a piece of bark.

not sure about the bark, but I have seen it on trees around here too. That shelter attempt looks like someone put a lot of time into it, weaving all those mats...its a shame to let them go to waste

My guess on the bark would be poplar, but I'm not positive.

Darn you, Cliff....you've got me all worked up over a piece of bark. |
Don't sweat it...you've got a new blade coming to be worked up over.
That shelter material looked like those store bought grass mats that you buy in the Tacky Dept. at Wally World. They were machine sewn. Probably the best use I can think of for them.
Maybe they were like a wedding present or something & that shelter was the Honeymoon Hideawy.
Well.....I must be off.

I am worked up. It didn't come today either.
I am almost certain it will come tomorrow, though.

That's no surprise.

yeah, I was gonna say it looked rather machine made, but I wasn't sure, someone might spend all that time to do it, as inefficient as that way was.

It is another great day for a hike.

Judging by the size of those pants, there's a 16 year old kid running around with a bare butt !!!
Must have been a helluva party.
