If you split up the workout and go everyday it usually works the best because it gives your body time to recover while you are still getting a work-out. Reason why I did it is because I worked abs everyday though. It's nice to have a six pack

Of topic a bit here. I strongly believe that alot, if not most of a persons motivation is mental.
If you think you want to do it ?... you mite.
If you mite do it ?.... you wont.
If your mad at your self for what ever reason; over weight, under weight you will have good chance of fixing the issue.
Useing the words " mad at yourself " may not be fitting but its how i motivate myself.
Looking into the mirror is a great way to motivate yourself i think. Naked, after a shower ! there ya are ! do you like what you see ??
Some people can have a really, really tuff time with this, it can trigger alot of spooky things in differant people.
But only you can change it there was a time when i weighed in at 225 ! im only 5'8" this was 10 years ago.
Ihave never ! yet gone over 197. When i see that number i freak out, lol. Thats my Alarm
On an average now, my weight is 190. In the summer months, im down to 185
Differant things motivate differant people, try to find what motivates you ? ... Its all good when ya do Cheers

^ well to that Dave my motivation was the Air Force, and is still. I got discouraged though when the road got tough trying to get it. My motivation went down the tubes there too. Sometimes it's the little things that matter, like when I can do 5 more push-ups I'm so excited because that's a big step in my eyes. Another thing that was motivating was after a good workout, you notices your arms look slightly bigger than they did a month ago. But like you said the motivations got to be there or I got nothing.

Its a good idea just dont go crazy heavy at the start. Lots of people stunt their growth if they do it too hardcore. I started weights about 4 1/2 years ago and gradually have been increasing. Its great to do, keeps you in shape and whatnot. Its also fun

Not only will it stunt your growth if you do it too hardcore, but if you start too young. Happened to me when I started lifting avidly in seventh grade

Well I'm 6'3" so I don't think stunting my growth will matter much.

You dont really have to worry if you are older than in 9th grade, maybe even 8th grade you could too. and at 6'3... yeah if I was you I wouldn't worry about it too much either

Probably not.
But you guys are right, you should take it light until your body can handle it. You can still keep fit, though....just take it easy.

I used to lift like a mad man in HS. I was actually pretty big, if I say so myself. But back then I did it all for asthetic reasons, and was doing it all wrong. I had a big upper body, and chicken legs. After taking up bjj about a year ago, I started slowly getting back into it. I mostly work with kettlebells though, as they are very functional for bjj.

I'am 6'2" and 170 lbs so body building doesnt quite work for me , But I do workout 3-5 days a week on my Soloflex to stay toned and agile, and I have been into martial arts since age 8 . I can bench 200lbs but as I've said am no body builder.

I think I'm going to call up my cousin soon so he can show me freeweights. I think I'll start running too. I have to get serious about getting in shape now.

At the Air Force meeting today I met a guy who's going to go weight lifting with me. He'll show me free weights too.

Mystik, running afterwards for about 15-20min after weight training is a great way to get rid of the lactic acid that builds up. Lactic acid isn't all that bad, it's a natural component that is released to help you keep going. But it might affect your muscle growth if it isn't released from the muscles. I know tons of guys who don't run to get rid of the acids after weight training, but the guys who do always recover faster, and see more results. Just FYI.

Well I think stretching works great too. I find that once you get a routine going you don't get sore anymore. BTW have you ever tried running after you worked out your legs. They're stiff as ever.
