Powercleans. I live by them. Calf raises and squats. Bench. Pullups. Situps. Heck, I've been doing it all since 7th grade, my dad is an ex-competitive bodybuilder, so I started pretty young for wrestling training Very Happy

^ Well you should have a good heads up for anyone here that has a question about it. Smile

I dont weight lift. My brother was really into it for 8 years. I am thinking of getting a small weight set, 150lbs.
And just work with that for my cycling and canoeing Cool

Weightlifting is just plain good for you. But the most important thing is technique and quality over weight. Doing heavy stuff wrong is how you hurt yourself, possibly permanantly.

This is a question directed towards Trooper: how did your weight training go? I remember that you were working pretty hard on that....

I also have a book you might be interested in taking a look at trooper, It's called "Arnold: The education of a body builder" by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Douglas Kent Hall. The first half is an autobiography, but the last half is about what exercises you can do and what to eat to build bulk and get lean. I've read the whole thing already and I have to say it's helped quite a bit. Very Happy

That's cool. You can still be young as long as you're healthy. Wink

I stopped doing it too. I don't like pain that much. Confused But if you make exercise part of your life it'll get easier.

Then change exercises Laughing Like for me tuesdays I work upper body and abs and thursdays I work lower body and abs. All you have to do is alternate. And its not like weightlifting is supposed to be like an action movie. You are working out, its not supposed to be exciting or fun. Just blast some music, suck it up, and go clean 100 pounds Laughing The more weight you can put on the more you will enjoy it, I can tell you that. (and girls will be after you too Wink )

the gym is kindof intimidating though. You're always doing less weight than the big guys, and you're keeping up with the girls. Confused I do the machines too, because I never learned how to do all the weight machines. Too me I don't really like the gym scene. Sad

Even the big guys had to start somewhere. If you life every day doing the switching off lower and upper body lifts you will be there in no time Very Happy You think YOU're intimidated? Imagine me in 7th grade weighing like 105 and all the body builders at the gym at 4 am Laughing I remember that, but eventually you get over it, and to be honest most people dont even notice you are there, they're in their own little world Laughing I would say just give it a shot, you'll probably like it after a while. And if you dont know how to do freeweights, DONT USE THEM. Thats one of two ways you can get seriously injured, incorrect technique and doing more weight than you can handle. To learn freeweight lifting, go here...
http://weight-training.realsolutionsmag.com/

And remember the #1 most important thing (besides safety of course Laughing ) QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. Learn to do the lifts right, then you can add on the weight.

NOW GO HIT THE WEIGHTS Very Happy

Now thats one area that I suck at. Distance running is horrible for me, but thats probably because I'm an Ex-wrestler and a soccer player, so my knees are horrible Sad Doing squats helps build the muscles around them and build them up though. I'm more of a short distance sprinter myself, not to be arrogant or anything but I smoke most people in a short distance race Laughing Yeah... but just get into the gym when you can, getting your feet wet and just get used to going Very Happy

I actually was going regularly. I'd do full body workout everyother day. I spent about an hour there or so. Then I got really nasty poison ivy and I just fell out of the routine, and I didn't have the motivation to go back.
