good idea for a thread. I'm getting in shape before I go to basic training. Supposed to go running with my friend sometime. Then I also have a maple tree in my front yard. It surprisingly can give you a good workout. You can do pull-ups, only arms ladder climp, regular climp, you can go out on a limb horizontally, or you can launch yourself from one branch and catch yourself on another one. very cool.

Good stuff Mystick. Getting in shape is a great thing, staying in shape all year round is the best Smile People tend to gain in winter, lose in summer. But, im trying more & every year to maintain my weight through winter. So i find just changing your eating habits in winter really helps. I now try to cut out in December eating any red meats. Just fish, sea food etc.

I think it's the bodies natural instict to eat more when it's cold because you're going to need the fat to stay warm. Confused I heard once that air conditioning doesn't help when you're trying to loose weight, because you don't expend any calories to cool you body. Maybe it makes you have a bigger appetite too. Not sure, but it'll save energy anyway.

Well, I dropped 10 pounds in track and still haven't gained it back. I feel like a weenie at 5' 11" and only 150 lbs Sad . I haven't been able to get out lately, but after this weekend I will hopefully get out and hike/run/ride my bike. We've been remodeling our basement most of this summer because of flooding so I have been doing that Sad I've also started eating healthier, no more hot pockets for me.

I'm 6'3", and about 180 now. Lately I can't stop eating, but hopefully I can stop that soon. My next goal for kayaking is 15 miles, and I'm sure I'll be dead after that. Before basic training my goals are to get better at running, and push-ups. I'm great at sit-ups, and can do about 50 in a minute. Push-ups I can only do 30 at a time before my arms die. Running I can do 1 mile in 7min, but my throat is raw, and I'm out of breath by the end. At least I have some time if I make use of it. Cool

Run with a waterbottle. You can get hip straps and stuff for them. I am usually the same way when I dont have water but last weekend I ran a 3 mile loop around a lake in 20 minutes. Without water I would have probably died in the first 300 yards Laughing

Army Fitness test? Do you go to a private school or something because the only fitness testing we do here is Presidential.

I too have lost a significant amount of weight...over 60 pounds. After I had my baby, well, I was one of 'those' women. LOL My fault, I had done well up until my sixth month when both of my grandmothers died two weeks apart...started eating for comfort sort of thing as I was rather depressed over it.

Anyway, it took me a while but I did an overhaul of my life and what I put into my body. I had always eaten well before, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing, so I started eating less and more frequently, made sure I sweated for at least 30 minutes a day, stuff like that. I also started making everything from scratch and cut high fructose corn syrup from my diet (it blocks the chemical your brain produces to tell you that your full). Not very easy to do with a baby, especially in the winter, but I managed.

Now I'm sitting around 135 and I'm 5'6". Not super skinny (not that I want to be, I suspect most guys don't like skinny women anyway) and I feel pretty average as far as my figure goes. I'm fit and feel healthy, can bike long distances hauling a 20 pound bike trailer with a 40 pound toddler in it and not get winded, so I'm doing something right.

Nope, too skinny is a bad thing. I had a girlfriend who was really skinny. When you try to put your arm around her most of your arm was sticking out because she took up so little room. Laughing And she was hard, because she was so boney. Confused Anywho, being active and overweight is actually healthier than being skinny and not exercising. I knew some skinny girls at my school that couldn't draw the 5 or 10 pound bows at school for archery. Shocked
