Gas prices

The price of gas here is now 1.30 a liter or 4.92 a gallon (down from 1.34 a liter or 5.07 a galon).

ABSOLUTLY NUTS!

so, instead of driving my civic to work (7.47 km away, and i get 45 miles to the gallon anyway...) I bike. takes about 25 min to get there and i have to show up at least 10 min early to get changed and catch my breath, but it's defonatly more economical and it is greener, so it fits here! I wish more people did this as it would be better for the environment and it would show the gas companies we don't need to rely on them. Supply and demand gets the price high... lower the demand... lower the price... makes sence to me at least.

If the barrel price of oil gets to be over $125 they're going to open up ANWR (Alaska National Wildlife Refuge) for drilling. I don't really know what to think about that right now. Confused

Daffy you sure have high gas prices. Shocked

It's like $3.70 here. Or is that Canadian dollars? Confused

Thats great your doing the cycling thing Daff. And being that close, what the heck.
I cycle alot every year so i cut my Gas down alot. Im glad i have a Nissan, pretty cheap to run.
But, getting around any other way is a great move for anyone especialy the Planet Cool

If the states open up Alaska to drill,, it will be a very dark day...... Confused

makes me sick thinking about it.

last summer i biked to the beach, guarded for 8 hours, and they woudlnt let me bike home as it was the hottest day on record for the summer... that was 31.6k and i plan on doing it more often this summer as well.

Ok gas is suppose to get to 1.50 in may, thats a heck of lot here in Canada since a few years ago it was down in the 70's and 60's.

Diesel is even more expensive, which makes no sense because it's easier to produce. Also Canada is exporting fuel to the USA and yet the prices are going up. it just makes no sense

Gas prices are insane, it kind of scares me when I think about it too much, the state of affairs with fossel fuels and what it's doing to everyone and our planet.

There "reason" why deisel is so expensive is the fact that they get less deisel from a barrel of oil than gas. That's a shady buisness if you ask me. Can't even give a good reason. I remember when deisel was cheaper even when the gas prices started to rise. Confused

I am getting my license this summer, I have waited so long because I don't really want to drive, its so detrimental the environment for everyone to drive. That is why my family tries to carpool whenever possible. I will probably buy a new bike or see if I can get an old one working, and bike a lot more. Oh the irony, get my drivers license just to stop driving Laughing

. In my time gettting a license was just as important as getting a job.
Its the first thing you did when you turned 16. And you could get your learners when you were 15, which i did.
There are scooters that you can buy now that you dont need a license just a helmet & they get 100 miles a gallon Shocked

.... great for city people & people that only have short trips, there no good on the HWY's though.

I think the biggest problem is when you get into fields of work like mine. I mean for a software engineer or something its practical, ride a bike, carry a laptop and such not that bad. But trying to carry a 1000 foot spool of 2/0 Wire gets a bit impractical and is where larger vehicles are needed. That is why I am hoping that an the fuel cell or electric cars become really efficient and effective. But for my summer job, I bring a lunch and water to work and safety glasses, I am pretty sure I can handle those on a bike, I just need to get a chain to chain my bike because I am getting close to a city and we have some weird people who occasionally come around.

You can buy panners for bikes, they just attach to a rack on the back.
I had 2 and got rid of them years ago, i regret it now. I packed about 5lbs of stuff around and was very easy to control. So for the price of a rack & panners you could ride most of the time & carry alot of stuff.

Definitely get a driver license if you can. They are invaluable as i.d. even if you never drive.

I have a rack on the back of my bike with a milk crate attached to it. It's handy as anything. I'm thinking of adding panniers to the sides.

but getting panniers is alot nicer. They weigh nothing & carry alot, so worth the $$. Cool

Yeah I don't know what he paid for his, but he's really serious about biking. He's biked thousands of miles, and been on many biking tours with biking clubs.

Yeah but a 1000 ft spool of 2/0 wire weighs about 100lbs in it self and is kinda bulky, not the type of thing that panners would help with I don't think. But I may look into those, to help with shopping and other things. Plus its great exercise to bike vs. pushing a gas pedal. Laughing

We have a bike trailer for our girl, but yeah, it wasn't cheap. Not that we use it haul around things except her, but who is to say we won't in the future.

These days, it's almost cheaper and easier, I imagine to just go and live in the woods, not practical for everyone, but if things keep going the way they are, might become a necessity for some of us Confused

Get a motor cycle or a vespa, they're VERY cheap to run Very Happy
