I just learned in my fishing regulation book that I'm able to catch turtle, frog, and snake. I think I'll try catching them when I go camping this year. Pretty curious to what the turtle of snake taste like. Smile

In the Magazine "Fur Fish and Game" the have articles on preparing turtle, (especially snapping turtle) and some recepies. This magazine is also an excellent source of survival and primitive living techniques. You can find recepies for the darndest things in there, but my personal favorite is pickled carp roe. Haven't had the guts to try it yet though, need to be pretty hungry for that. Confused
The only snake I have ever eaten was prairie rattler. Not bad, very mild.

I would like to try rattler and snapper. Unfortunately our wonderful DEC (Department of Environmental Conservation) just put a season on Snapping Turtles and a limit of like 3 per season. Kinda ridiculous if you ask me, but they are getting desperate for money apparently. Confused

Where was the snake killed?(country, province/state, etc...) We could get an educated guess as to the type if we knew where it was from. Cool

Just curious. Smile

Does anyone know how to catch turtle, because I can get 10feet away in my boat, but they run away. Confused I found out that the little ones run last. Bad for me because I want the big ones. Smile Actually all I need is one, then I'll be happy. Cool

I'm thinking of some way to catch them while I'm in my kayak. Hmm... something on the end of a big stick of something. Confused I'll have to be creative and see what I can think of.

he wants a turtle dave, not evry bit of seaweed he encounters! now, a fishing net with a retractable pole would be good if you could pack it on yer kayak... then when you see one you could try to net it.... I trust you checked local or state laws/bylaws on this right?

realising now you probably meant to keep the net on board, not dragging while you paddle.... sorry when i read it first i had visions of you draging a net under the kayak!

50 lbs braided line with a large hook and work on the end, drop it in front of them and drag back slowly so they bite it...or leave em overnight

Last place was on a lake, but there's lots of streams around too. I try to go to a bunch of different places. Cool
