Hmmm, is it hard to do ?.............. NOPE ! lol
Well yesterday i showed my reel fishing buddy for the first time and in 6 cast's he was getting it farther.
It does take practice but once you get the motion and feel its easy.
I find fly fishing way more fun than reel fishing, i do both ! and like both, but nuttin is as fun as Fly fishing.
And i'll be honest, ive caught more fish, fly fishing than the other. Cool

Any fishing is good fishing but its best on the Fly Smile

Absolutely, no question its best on the fly. Very Happy

For newcomers to fly fishing... it kinda equalizes the chances between you and the fish... the fish has a good chance of not getting eaten. Laughing

Anyway, great sport. Probably the hardest thing to "catch" onto (pun intended Razz ) for newcomers is that it's the line itself that gives you the weight/mass to allow you to cast, by "loading" the rod (gathering stored energy) in your casting technique, and then cast that weighty line. Very different feel from bait or lure fishing, where you're depending on the weight/mass of the lure/bait to pull your line for distance. Because of that, it's all in the timing and technique to "load" the rod with enough energy and then cast the line. Hope that makes sense.

Dave, noticed you've got a 5x leader there... what weight is your line that you usually fish? You usually go after steelheads, dollys and such, right?

I change up my leader line often with differant area's and conditions.
I dont fish steelhead that much, i have my #8 rod which is set up for that. I use 3 to 5 weight leader line for my kind of fishing. I have a 9'ft 6 weight rod for my all around rod. I just put that pack of leader line there for the pic.
For the most part i am a Trout fishing guy, with Kokanee, cutt throat, Dolly varden, as well on the list. Smile
And of course, Steel Head, Chum, Koho, when the season is right. If it swim's and its legal to catch i want it on the end of my Rod Laughing Cool

If I had any fishing pictures I would upload them, but I don't so....

I go fishing, I just never have a camera with me. Sad

This pic was last year about October. Lots of cutt throat & trout here.

They are part of the Salmon family. When there young they are more grey, silver.
This is spawning run, they turn real ugly.
