^ The mind is the best Horror film maker. Its amazing that what we can't see scares use the most.
Not making light of what happened Bob, but 95 % of stuff that happens like this when camping out doors is nothing at all. Its happened to many campers/hikers im sure. I can recall acouple of times in the day when im hiking,.... ive stopped and resting on a log/rock and something behind me is rustleing and moveing my way .... and a bird { Robin } was on the ground looking for worms etc, to eat.

I almost forgot about this story:
Me and my sister were walking out a ridge on our property, just getting some fresh air. Suddenly she stopped and said, "Listen!" We stood there for a couple minutes, but I never heard a thing. Then all of a sudden there was this really strange noise. I've never heard it before then or since. It sounded like somebody banging on a sheet of metal, Bang! Bang! Bang! My sister said it reminded her of somebody sweeping.(not sure about that ) Anyway, about half a second later, we hear lots of feet running up the side of the hill. We both exchanged glances and decided at the same time we should run back. The first thing that crossed my mind was wild hogs. Not something you want to run across in the woods. We ran back the way we came(I know this area well, and walk it all the time), and stopped about 75 yards later and caught our breath. We never saw anything, but I'm glad we went back. It nearly scared the pee out of me.
My only guess as to what is was is somebody was bow hunting, and they shot a wild hog and it decided to run up our hill with its buddies.
I can still hear that sound in my head today, but I still don't know exactly what it was.

Haha, you're absolutely right. I envisioned everything, from bears to vengeful ghosts of the forest, lol. Even though it is mostly nothing to worry about, I still feel the need to get out and get a pistol. All, but one of my backpacking trips have been alone, and a firearm would definitely make me feel a lot safer. Especially in the secluded areas.
