It would be cool to hear about some personal accounts. Anything that has freaked you out in the bush?

I love Les' story about the moose in Algonquin. I don't think I have had any real stories of anything that freaked me out. It takes a lot for nature to freak me out

Mine would have had to be when i came back to my camp after muzzleloader season and found a black bear in there. It was pretty dark too. Its scary when you only have 1 shot in your rifle. Laughing

That's one reason I will probably never hunt with a muzzleloader. You can't reload fast enough to save your life in a situation like that. Shocked

Back on topic, telling ghost stories around the campfire is fun. Twisted Evil

Wasn't camping, but at a bonfire. We kept hearing weird things coming from the corn, like growling and what not. Well the "Men" all pull out their knives (Country boys) and the girls scream (City Girls) well, earlier that summer, sightings of a cougar around the area had been reported.

Don't know if I have a really creepy story, but I creeped other kids out. One time I pretended to be a racoon, and I scared my friend half to death. After that I got severe poison ivy. Crying or Very sad It started to blister really bad, and I had to go to the doctor.

Now that's a scary story. Shocked

Laughing

One time I was sitting around the campfire with some friends a few years ago. We had little sticks and we would light them, then put them out. Classic playing in the fire, you know. One of the dads told us to not play in the fire. Of course we didn't listen. So to get his point across he secretly squirted some charcoal lighter fluid in the fire. It roared up and we all jumped back. We had been sitting pretty close(it was a small fire). Needless to say, he broke us from playing with fire. Laughing

I don't really have a scary story, but we've all had those moments when we hear something rustling in the leaves close by. The hair on the back of your neck stands up and your heart rate nearly doubles. Then it turns out to be your dog, or something like that. It's happened to me plenty of times. Embarassed

Hiking at the local park by myself when there is barely anyone there will give you that creapy feeling, scares the $hit out of you when you hear a crack or somthing behind you. One time I heard this weird growling coming from this thing of brambles beind me, I pulled out my fixed knife and my folder, and backed up slowly, no clue what it was, besides scary as hell!

I settled my camp about 50ft away from a big slope. During the night I was stoking the fire, when all of a sudden I heard what sounded like something running down the hill towards my camp. I ran to the other side of the fire, pulled out my can of bear spray, thumbed out the pin, and then got into some weird crouching pose. Whatever it was, never came, and I was freaked the heck out the remainder of my trip. I'm pretty sure it was just a log or something that was rolling down, but it was still scary as hell.
