If I were you, I'd get the multi-pump kind. My dad's Crosman has been around for years and has been shot a lot. Never had any problems with it. What brand did you have, Daffy?

If properly maintained, they last a lot longer than the one-cock BB guns you see most kids with. I love shooting it. Cool

A hundred yards is pushing their accuracy, although I have hit a dog at over a hundred yards before. It's a good way to learn about guns and practice marksmanship before you shoot something that has recoil. A .22 rifle would be the next step up from a BB gun. Smile

The current break action i have is a crossman rm44 (which i'm not sure they make anymore... 495pfs, 22cal, wood stock)

The multi pump i had was a crossman gold medallion. 8 pumps for 495fps with a bb and about 460fps with a .177 cal pellit. Sure the seals went in it... but i mean, i probably fired over 20,000 shots through it (and that isn't an exageration.. if it wasn't that much it was more)

And for the record, it was oiled with 2-3 drops of crossman pelgunoil in the propper locations every 250 shots (as recomended)! It lasted a solid 10 years or so... got it when I was 7 for Christmas.

Well yeah, if you shoot THAT much, the seals are going to wear out. Surprised

My dad's hasn't had that many shots through it, but he's had it a while. I consider it a very dependable BB gun. Cool

So you had the gun 10 years, but had to replace a bunch of seals? How many did you have to replace in 10 years?

I don't remember the model number on my dad's....it was the basic, standard model they made. 626 or something like that.

never replaced the seals just got a new gun once they finally kick'd the bucket... it had been losing power for about a year (so i just compensated with extra pumps... ike 12-15 rather then Cool this eventually lead to the seals failing an the gun being rendered useless.... I bought the spring break barrel because there was nothing more annoying, to me, as pumping a gun 8-10 times and taking one shot (consider how many shots i had taken... loads of pumps...)

My first rifle was a Winchester model 94 in 30-30. I traded 2 wiener pigs and 15 dollars for that rifle and still have it.
Carried it for many many miles, taken several animals with it, Still love that little rifle.

As to pellet guns, the old crossman pump was a great little rifle. The new ones have a plastic sight and while the actions are good, the sights won't stay lined up as well.

Some of the new break actions from Lyman or the German rifles are very accurate and lots of velocity, but they are far more expensive as well.

If you go to the 177 caliber it doesn't take quite the pounding a 22 caliber does and lasts a little longer, but if you want to hunt with them, the 22 is the best way to go.
