The shelter in the place crash is just the plane itself.

Do you think he should have done what he did or just used parts from the plane to make a good a-frame or something?

Because I personally would not have stayed in the airplane, i would use the metal as a floor, then add spruce to keep it warm. Using the plane to cover over the shelter so its water proof would be smart. Since the plane is made of metal you could enclose some of the fire inside so that the heat can radiate to you rather then be outside. I think it would take longer but would be more effective in the end.

I guess it all depends on how long you intend to stay...

If i was in that situation, & i was staying for awhile, i would have pilled up branches all around the plane to block wind, & keep snow off, & keep heat in.

Thats actually a really cool idea.

Since Les wasnt planning on staying long he kept it simple i guess.

Thats one thing about survivorman episodes, he dosent get to do what he wants to due to the time frame, however that makes us think Cool

I don't think I would have stayed in the plane the whole week. Maybe the first night. After that I would use the plane parts to make a better shelter. Very Happy

Good take on that. I obviously would have done the same, I think Les might have too if he didnt have a fake injury too.

yea i agree with you troop. the "injury" really limited what he could do, and as you see in the episode he gets so frustrated he bails on the injury senerio.

I would have brought in some bush branches and stuff to insolate the plane

Thats totally true, but like you said I would brought in spruce and stuff like that too. It could have been much warmer that way

I would have made a shelter and brought plane parts to it. I think it would take a lot more work to effectivly line the plane than it would to make a shelter (you are cutting/hawling the branches with either option anyway) and then make'n it precipitation proof with the plane parts, as well as more wind proof.

Yeah thats what I said originally, but if I was planning to stay in the plane I would have insolated.

I think Les would have doen that too if it wasnt for the fake injury, that was a really dumb idea I think Confused

i don't think you have to think it was a dumm idea, see'n how he gave up on it half way through i'm sure Les would agree on it.

Yeah the show shouldnt have those dimentions such as injury, well it could be then all the locations would need it. It doesent make sense that only one episode should have ti.

But yes I agree on your shelter thoughts, he could have made a great shelter form all the plane parts. he had a lot ot work with

I think the reason he chose not to was due to his "injury"

Interesting, nice discussion. To outfit the plane for a few nights, I'd rip the door off like Les did, cover any other openings with spruce boughs, and then snow piled on top of them. Bring in more boughs into the plane to lessen the conduction of heat from my body to the aluminum, and build a fire in front of the door that was removed. I'd use any excess aluminum to position around the fire to reflect heat into the plane, and lastly use the opposite door for an entrance. Easier said than done though. Sound good?

hmm great idea. I think putting some cover around the fire to dirrect it to you would be good. His fire is wide open and just blowing all over the place.

Maybe re-read the post, I said if there were a second door like there are on most planes, I would use that for an entrance.
