I really like tom browns stuff, some people dont like him though, I dont know why.
Looks like a cool school though, I imagine his students are just as good as he is.

 | | Some are averse to Tom Brown's spiritual take and consider some of his mystique as capitalizing on "New Age" seekers, other's doubt some of his stories... I haven't had any experience with Tom Brown or the Tracker School - opinions vary widely...
But one of the first introductions I had to truly living in accord with the natural world and survival was "The Tracker"... I read it shortly after reading "My Side of the Mountain" as a kid...
Whatever differences some may have with Tom Brown or Jon Young's approach, they both have a lot of good insights and information worth evaluating... There's no "one way" ... and most if not all of the wisdom in the world has been passed down from those who whent before... |
Yep, same here... "My Side of the Mountain", and "The Tracker". I like Tom Brown's stuff.
I can understand how some would be turned off by the spiritual side he takes... but on the other hand, I think the spiritual side is, and what can, separate a dead person from a live person in a survival situation... mental attitude, mental fortitude, and all that. Very important, and for some people the spiritual side works to reach the survival instinct and attitude.
To each his own though.

I being a student of Tom Brown Jr. have had a chance to experience his way of teaching and such. His teachings are very accurate and he tells you right out when you take his classes, "don't believe a word I say, but instead prove me wrong. In trying to prove me wrong, you will learn more than I could ever teach, and may even find better ways." I love the way he teaches, and have learned volumes from him and with dirt time. As for his spiritual teachings, take what you want and leave the rest, nobody is telling you you have to believe and follow what he does. In his book Awakening Spirits, I believe he even points this out. As for the stories, who cares, they are really good, even if false and give us something to strive for and great campfire stories if nothing else, which helps people feel more relaxed. Those are my 2 well more like 3 cents
