Cordwoodguy, yer right. That 8 inch is for a building with gutters in my area. You might be able to cheat it if the roof has a greater overhang, say 2 feet, to get that splash away from the foundation. You've got to be careful going up too high on a foundation without an anchoring system to keep it from rolling. That's partly the reason for only 8 inch.

ERIC........THANKS! ANOTHER THING ABOUT THE EARLIER POST WHERE SOME ONE RECOMMENDED STRAWBALE AND CORDWOOD.WELL,I`D FEEL MORE CONFIDENT LIVING IN A CORDWOOD HOME THAN A STRAWBALE HOME IF A GRIZZLY CAME A CALLING.I THINK A GRIZZLY WOULD PEEL THROUGH A STRAWBALE WALL LIKE A HOT KNIFE IN BUTTER...NO DETERENT AT ALL. CORDWOOD HOMES COME CLOSE TO QUALIFYING AS BOMB SHELTERS AND I`D SAY THE WALLS WOULD BE BULLET PROOF.PLUS IN A FOREST FIRE SITUATION CORDWOOD HOMES HAVE SURVIVED.
