Awesome find Steven ! ...
Great fixed blade dont worry about FLF9 comment, he is a Pup
That is a great older blade. numbered & marked, with a sig !
I bought a nice older fixed blade at the flea market, it was a German Solingen 16L.
No sheath though Keep up the hunt

 | | Probably older than you are.
Very nice, though. Good find. |
I doubt it's older than me, but you'll never know.

Hey Steven...
Just going by what I can make out in your pic, that appears to be a Schrade Uncle Henry Golden Spike.
Schrade has made quite a few different models with the "Uncle Henry" name on them. It was one of thier more popular lines of folders & fixed blades.
The sheath you have matches the one that they sold with that knife also.
Plain edge-drop point SS blade.
Staglon handle (nylon stag material).
9.25" oal.
Does it say "Super Sharp' on one side of the blade?
If you can find a model number on it (like maybe 153UH) or maybe the country where it was manufactured I could be a little more certain.
Before 1981 they were made with red spacers in the handle,so the one you have was made after 1981.
Looks like it's in good shape & well worth $25.00.
Nice score!!!

OK then...since it says it's USA made , that would put the production somewhere between 1981 & 2007.
In 2007 (I think) , Taylor Cutlery began producing knives under the Schrade name.
They moved production to China. (That's why I asked about the country of mfg.).
So it looks like you have a USA made Golden Spike on your hands .
I guess the bigger question is whether or not it's older than YOU

Let's just say this.If the knife was made in 1981 then the knife was made the same year I became a firefighter and you have to be at least 18 for that.

Good score, though.
Enjoy!!

RC5 |
|
I've been playin' around with my RAT Cutlery RC5 for a month or so & decided to try it out in a true survival situation.
So the wife & I invited a bunch of little ones over to our back yard later on tonight to light up a fire & roast some marshmallows & hot dogs.
Got a few 4 foot lengths of wood that I chainsawed earlier this summer.
I used the RC5 & a Bahco Lapplander saw to cut & split the various sizes we'll need for the fire:
Here's the evil beast after work:
I'd read that the thick blade on the RC5 wasn't ideal for some of the more delicate cuts, but with a light touch it did just fine:
After I finished,I took the beast inside to touch up the edge, but I was happy to see that it didn't need it.
All in all another fine knife from RAT Cutlery.

Ray Mears has them on his website. Of course, they would come from the UK and cost an arm and a leg for shipping, though.

Yeah..the Surefire is a good light.
I have one made by Nextorch that my son gave me that operates just like the Surefire.
It even uses the same bulb assembly as the Surefire.
(Made in China)...ever heard of that brand???
Seems like a good solid light. Well machined & finished.

Yes Sir...that RC5 is a workhorse!
I've been real happy with it.
It's just a big, heavy duty knife that will take a whoopin'.
I compare it to my Becker Campanion for size & performance.

Yeah, that's a Surefire copy if I ever saw one!!
Made in China? You're kidding!! I never would have guessed that!!!
But yeah, Surefire makes the best lights in the world (not the cheapest). The motto of the Surefire president John Matthews is: "Make the best." And that's what they do. Not everybody appreciates that enough to pay for them, but I know that they are worth it.
My 6P has been around almost 4 years. Which doesn't seem long, except that I was 13 when I got it!! That seems like a long time ago!! I've had my G2 for a year or two. The aluminum ones are somewhat more sturdy(and more expensive!!) than the Nitrolon ones(although I have read about one that got run over by a truck!).
My G2 is just my backup light at home. The 6P has the P60L LED assembly in it, which gives awesome runtime and higher lumens(brightness). But, the LED light is very harsh and doesn't cut through fog or the trees very well. One time, there was a house cat out in the woods near our cabins that I could hear prowling around. I went to go scare him off because he was spooking our horses. I had my 6P with me but I couldn't see his eye shine(although, I knew he'd be looking at me). I went back and got my G2(incandescent), and I could instantly see his eyes. The LED does give much better runtime and brightness, but sometimes you still need an incandescent for stuff like that. I don't use it that often, but it's nice to know I have it around.
If I'm going to be out after dark, I take the 6P with me. I haven't replaced the batteries for over 6 months since I've started using the LED in it. And I use it pretty often.
I want the new E1B Backup, but I don't really have the $150 to drop for a new one. I think I'll just wait for Christmas for that one.
On another note, I bought a Swiss Gear Synergy Laptop Backpack yesterday off of eBay. It should be here sometime next week.
In the meantime, I don't know how I'm going to explain a $150 purchase from Basegear to my Mom(she can see my bank account in real time). I really do need all that stuff!!
