We're finally on top |
|
Well guys this forum was started SEPT 22 2006, so a little over a year ago. For a long time when you typed "arctic cove" in google it would be listed like 20 pages before you got to see it. heck it took a half a year for it to come onto google. Now if you type "arctic cove" its #1! woohooo that means its getting enough traffic for it to be up there

Sorry to be a bring down here Troop but that's only good if someone already knows the name of this site. I did find it at #11 for "survivorman forums" but couldn't find it in the top 40 when I searched for just survivorman or survival. I don't know if you can set the search key words in the page header or not but if you can you need to add the words people would use to find info about the show that don't already know about this site. Baring that, if you can get other similar sites to link to here then it should come up in searches for those key words. The more incoming links you get the higher the search engines will rank the site.
*NOTE* I checked the page source and it doesn't even have keywords in the meta tags. Search engines would get the info from static page content but they don't like dynamically created pages so you're probably stuck with trying to get incoming links from other related sites.

> Well one thing i would Not ! like to see, & its the Forum explode with mega people. I would rather have people find it by chance really. Personaly, i think huge sites suck. So the less links to the Arctic Cove is fine by me
It will grow in its own time Slow and steady is a good thing, Cheers TommasisX

Ya I know what you mean, I did advertise it with meta tags; I put on Survivorman, survival, wilderness, forum and a couple others.
Yeah I wish the "Survival forum" would be ranked a little higher up, but hwat can we do. We'll see in the future.

I'm with D.D. on this... I'd rather the forum continue running "under the radar" as it is... "build it, and they will come" to coin a famous movie phrase.

with the mod team we have it woudln't affect it much. Everyone is on board with the rules, including every active user. Noone goes out of line or supports others who do. I haven't come across a thread gone bad in a while. That tells me that users are using the pm feature for it's propper use. If tons of people were to join then they would just follow suit. Our campfire never gets out of control (no pun intended) since we reset it after 25 pages. Other sites get that many pages daily or faster... Long story short, bring on the bigger numbers; I think we can take it.

No doubt in my mind we could take an increased traffic load and veritable hoardes of new members
... question is do we want to?
Seems we're growing at a slow but nice pace. And I do think with our regulars, plus our admins and mods, the sight is pretty much self-policed... I can see what Daffy's saying, and I think our members would probably not put up with too many shenanigans and such, before asking or booting someone to leave.
I prefer our growth as it is (as I phrase it, "under the radar"), but I'm sure the site's capable of handling a lot more new members and traffic. It's up to you Troop, and D.D. and Daffy as admins. Turd and I have got your backs covered whichever direction you want to go, as do our regular members. We've got a good, solid group of active members to continue building on.
Any regulars want to chime in further? Thoughts? I've got a sense Troop wants to hear, as do D.D. and Daffy... actually I think Daffy's mind's made-up already

hahah as always eh.. i tend to not beat around the bush. I still don't want the auto add account thing tho. at lest this way we can (and by we i mean troop and dave mainly since i rarely get to the new member emails to vlidate them before somoene else does it) keep the growth under control. Troops removal of unused accounts is good too! But yea, we could handle it, not that we need or necesarly want it... but the site wouldn't fail like it has in the past... I have removed users before and we hardly notice that they were here now. But yeah, lets get some user responses!
