Post I'm building a Canoe!!...maybe. Reply with quote
so I'm in Forestry in my school and that includes wood shop in it. I have to build something and I decided that it would something I would use and not some dinky decoration so I'm going to make a canoe. Cool I'm not sure if it really is going to happen but the teacher says its a great idea. so I was wondering, is there any one out there that can give advise or even plans on how to build a canoe? is it too hard? well I know it wont be a walk in the park but is it more for the experts? I really hope to make this sort of thing a hobby for me. I really do like to make stuff and would like to continue to work with wood for a long time. so any advise please throw it out there for me.

An episode of "Bushcraft" shows Ray Mears learning how to make a canoe using just hand tools and trees. If you could get ahold of a tape or dvd of it, I'm sure it would be very enlightening, even though you'll likely be taking some short cuts.

I love that episode of Ray Mears making that Birch Bark canoe. Ive seen it twice, would be cool to take on a project like that.

uhm... I'm not going to build a canoe. Crying or Very sad it takes too long to build. so insted I am going to build an intarsia!! its really neat but not as cool as a cedar strip canoe. its a wall hanging, decoration if you will. this isnt the one I'm doing but an example to show you what one looks like.

how it is made is pretty much by cutting out the disine and putting it back together. if your really good then you can use like 5 differnt kinds of wood for the shading and stiff. Very Happy I made a desine of my own and so thats why you can't see it cause there is nothing like it on the web that I could find.
its a profile of a wolf head howling and its in a circle with trees in the back. its neat I'll show all when I'm done. Very Happy

That would happen.... if they had an advanced wood shop here but they don't this is the only corse for wood shop Confused Mad but if I make it a hobby I'm sure I could find a class or a place that will let you use wood working tools. I hope I can I really want to make one. Sad
