Anyone use bandannas? I use one sometimes but I'm not really sure how to tie it Confused Laughing It is a good thing to have though, anyone know any uses for a bandanna? I can think of some:

1. Filtering water
2. keep head cool (soak in water)
3. prevent sun burn
4. Bandage

Dust mask.

Sweat rag.

Sling for an injured arm.

Anything you would need for wiping...things.

My daughter uses one when we're out as sort of a "bag" to store things she finds along the way...neat pine cones, fossils, stuff like that.

I've never used one, but I've decided to start carrying one when I hike. When the trail is narrow or I'm bushwhacking, branches knock the hat off my head. Then pine needles and twigs, etc. get in my hair. A bandana on my head would solve that. Plus it has other uses, as already noted.

Yup, I've also always got about two with me when I'm out and about, or at least one when in the city. They're just too handy and unobtrusive not to.

Like others, I like them for a water pre-filter, first aid, headwear, cleaning cloth, pot holder, kindling carrier...

I keep one in my backpack. The main reason I carry it is for use as a hot pad.

I have one on my head like you see Les do so often...I actually had been wearing one like that for awhile before Survivorman came out. Probably because of my inner pirate. I am always finding uses for them and when I did Civil War reenacting, I constantly used one as a hand protector when removing things from the fire like breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I carry one with me on hikes. I own about 5. they are great. when you where one on your head its harder for ticks to get to your scalp. I bet if you tied the ends on two sticks and stuck it in a stream striate up and down and stured the sand and rocks a bit you could get some crawdads or something. thats all I can think up for now. the most known has been said.

I carry a couple neon orange bandanas with me (never know when you'll need an emergency signal flag or a highly visible bit of cloth/sling/bandage/whatever). If it's hot, I knot two corners together and put it on top of my head, then put a hat on over that with the bandana in the back covering the neck. It's good insect/sun protection and you can wet the bandana if you have some water to spare and it's hot.

Hey winter that is a really good idea with the bright colored bandana. I think I should add one to my set because I dont have a bandana and you gusy seem to like them so I gotta try one. Right now as a signal I have an emergency blanket. Its small and its like a massive mirror Cool

As odd as it might sound, I keep an American flag bandanna in my truck 'emergency kit'. If anything too crazy were to happen, it's both a good signaling method and a good way to let others know that you're one of the good guys.

I got one of those as well, but maybe a helicopter is passing over as your walking and the emergency blanket is in a bag in your pack(or you lost your pack). The bandana could be on your head or in a pocket at the moment. Which are you going to reach for?

Thats true unpacking could take some time; However, i would use the blanket if I was in one place, set it up and leave it. Cool
