So,can you get a good knife for under $100.00? |
|
You sure can!
These are all in the $50 - $100 price range.
All good performers for what I use them for, mostly woodsy stuff.
I had them all out back this afternoon splitting up some dry ,hard maple that I had stacked up in the yard & thought I'd take some pics of them in action.
I'll post them later if anyone wants to have a look.
The larger blades made splitting the maple easy work , but the smaller one along with a baton did well too.
Too bad the Beckers are getting more pricey now. They're good knives.
Thanks for reading.

Why didn't you strip the Beckers like you did the rest?

Hey guys:
Yes , those are the prices in US dollars. Don't have any idea what they would end up being in Canadian.
The coating on the 2 Beckers hasn't gotten too scratched up & nasty looking yet. when it does , I'll probably take it all off like the rest.
The orange chute cord is to help increase visibility.
The knife ID labels were carved into the boards with a special GPS guided laser blade made by Dork Ops .
Not only does it carve ID labels in wood , but it also slices & dices , will penetrate an Army tank turret with only one stab , will identify terrorists with its special forward looking terrorist radar & has the patented "On Demand" serations that only pop out of the blade when you need them.
It also has a spell check feature on it that I just used & it said that turret really is spelled that way . Wasn't sure until it said it was correct.
The only downsides to this knife were the price...$ 457,000.00(US ). My wife wasn't too happy about that & said that I can't buy anymore knives for a couple weeks because this one cost so much.
The other problem is that it weighs 80 pounds (176.368 kilos ) including the knife , the remote control for it & all of the other related electronic equipment that comes with it. The UPS guy wasn't too happy about that.
I can get it all onto my belt , but it tends to pull my pants a little lower than I'm comfortable with. Makes me look like a street hood .
I would have taken pictures of it to show you guys , but it also has a stealth feature that keeps it from showing if a pic is taken & an alarm will go off if anyone tries. The neighbors aren't too happy about that.
Thanks for reading.

Hey guys:
No corkscrew or toohpick on this one,but those are available as options.
I ordered it without those in order to keep the weight down.
It does however come with a radar dish & a solar charger for the battery pack. I'm having a bit of trouble finding a suitable method of carrying those in the field though. Should have purchased the optional backpack they offered in the catalog.Oh well...next time I'll know better.
But hey...I was lucky to get this thing at all!
While I was fiiling out the application form,I read that I had to show proof that I was either a covert government agency employee or a mall security guard as those were the only people authorized to buy one.
Well , I don't work for any covert government agency & I'm not permitted to discuss the fact that I MIGHT work in mall security , so I just told them that I REALLY , REALLY wanted one & they said okay.
Thanks for reading & have a nice evening

Hi all:
I'm interested in which types of knives you all prefer to carry.
From the knives I listed previously or from these.( oh...BTW,these are not under$100.00).
For instance, when & why would you choose to carry a big, heavy knife like an RD 7 or a Becker 9 rather than something smaller like an F1 or S1.
It doesn't have to be those exact blades, but rather more the size, weight, style of the knife.
What would you use a big blade for & vice versa?
Can you use a smaller blade as effectivly as you can use a big blade & how?
Do you reaaly need a knife that was designed as a "Survival" knife or would you be served just as well with a plain edged blade made from quality materials?
I find myself carrying the F1 , S1 , or the Bravo more than I carry any of the bigger , heavier blades. I also carry A RAT 3 around with my PSK.
The bigger blades certainly have thier uses, but I just can't see them as EDC stuff.
Anything else that you can add would be of interest too. I'd like to know what you all prefer & why.
Thanks for reading.

For me the bravo one( though it still seems a little clunky to me). That knife and an axe of some sort. both the right tools for the job, at least at my level of experience and wearabouts.

Fonly:
Thanks for the response.Although I've not really had the need for an axe(living in Cincinnati),I can see the usefullness of one for other environments. I've considered getting a small GB & probably will just because I like good tools.
I'm sure that if I had one I'd wonder how I ever got along without it.
Eric:
I think some guy up north made that sheath .
If you want one just like it I'll see if I can remember his name & maybe you could get in contact with him .
But on a more serious note if I may...Eric , you make some outstanding sheaths & that one is no exception . I was kind of embarrassed to take the S1 out with the OEM sheath, but not with the one I got from you.
As soon as I get done with paying for back to school clothes & supplies for my daughters I'll be needing a sheath for the Howler & the Bravo.
Thanks for reading.

Haha, tell me about it Eric's Kydex pants are awsome, tuff and work very well.
But yeah, as to the axe. Here in northern alberta, its more of a neccesity than anything. And back in nova Scotia, it wasen't as much of a neccesity, but it was alot of help. though a machete would have worked well back there, the vegitation was softer, and a good stout machete worked well.

You know though, If it were only one knife I could take, I would take the RD7. Justin makes some fantastic knives, and as the they say a large knife can do the job of a large and small where a small can only do that of a small knife.
